If you were waiting to get your Xbox 360 for $100 at amazon, you were let down big time. At approximately 10:55 PST amazon was down - connection refused. It remained down until 10 after the hour, but by that time they were sold out. It took them a little over 5 seconds to sell 1,000 consoles. There are many people saying that their secure server (https) worked, while their normal site was down for the count.
Amazon
Even people near amazon's headquarters were let down with the connection refused error. Reading back on TechCrunch's old article that broke the news about this deal a couple of weeks ago, some people are saying their friends helped them buy one using a backup server with premium accounts:

The tips? Well our friend gave us a special link to the deals page [he said it was on a backup server, or something], and he gave us preferred accounts"¦ we didn't use our normal amazon accounts. Those were the basic tips"¦ among other thngs. But we had the same odds as everyone else"¦

Can't verify how accurate this is, but it's certainly unfair. If amazon wants to have huge sales like this at least get some real servers. This ytmnd sums up the mood =\
